Well folks...we have begun! Rehearsals for Richard Bechard's "Knights Around The Campfire" have begun and things are galloping along famously. All the actors are excited and are really getting into Richard's mind and play.

Hey there friends. Just so you know, there's a new play soon to begin rehearsing here at Sanctuary. Our very own Richard Bechard has written, along with Mel Ng, his first play and we are excited to be featuring it at our next Arts eXtravaganza.

We begin rehearsals next week and we go up November 13 & 14. Stay tuned for more details!

...eventful couple of days

So, my lovely wife is due with our second child May 16. When we set the dates for the play (will tell you soon, I promise!) there was only 1 week between the end of the run and her due date, something she was not pleased about. So, she made me get an understudy. Something that was fairly easy all things considered. Well, it didn't exactly pan out so 'easy' in the end. Due to a variety of scheduling concerns on his behalf, he gracefully bowed out. And it really was understandable, I harbor no ill-will towards this guy and wish him all the best in his upcoming production.

So, after that, we were up the creek without a paddle. Here we are, 6-7 weeks before the play opens and no understudy. Well, after a lot of tiny panics and a heaping of prayer, we had TWO auditions the other day. TWO! and both were good. Both guys were also up for the challenge ahead as well. We finally decided and are excited to have an understudy back on board. My wife is very happy as well.

Hey all. So, in the interest of keeping you all up to date on what's happening in the Screaming Monkeys world...Shannon Blake, director of The Drawer Boy, is now writing full-time. She wrote last years amazing play, The Passages Of Everett Manning (available to buy soon!), and since then we have been talking about her writing more plays for us. Well, it's happening! Hopefully, we'll have some more Blake originals for next years big production!

Hey everyone. Well, it's been a long time coming, but here's a new post! Wheee!

I am proud to announce that the Screaming Monkeys have a new show in the works. The play is The Drawer Boy by Michael Healey. For those of you who've never heard of it before, when it debuted in 1999 it won 4 Dora Awards, including Outstanding New Play. And it is!

So, stay tuned as I update the post from time to time about how things are going. We have a date set, but I won't announce it till February (probably mid or late) as there aren't any tickets available yet and I want to launch the website with it. Well, opening weekend is over and I am HAPPY!

As some of you know, I have been working on a big project these past 3 years and it has finally come to life. We have been rehearsing it since January 10th and we just had our opening weekend. It was friggin' good! And it feels so good to have this dream come true.

I have been at Sanctuary for 5 years now and this is one of those dreams that I had as Greg and I were talking about me coming on board. The whole idea that the people that we work with are doing everything to be heard, but they aren't. They are constantly ignored or worse. In order for healing to happen, understanding needs to be there and if you don't listen to people, you will never understand them. However, people also need to learn how to communicate in ways which others will hear. So, theatre and art are perfect tools for this understanding to begin to take place. Sanctuary has been so supportive of me in this venture and I could not have done this without their help and patience. My own journey thus far has been one of seeking understanding, both for myself and from me to others around me. So this play is a huge step for myself and for our community. We have lift off! The website for The Passages of Everett Manning is up and running! If you are interested in purchasing tickets to any of our performances, visit the "tickets" portion of the site and just choose the date you want and checkout. You can also call Lyf Stolte at 416-922-0628 x.215 and
leave a reservation. Be advised of two things, 1) if you reserve tickets by phone then you will have to pay via cash or cheque when you arrive and 2) this play is not suitable for children.

Well, it's been a while, so I thought I'd update you all (I have no idea who or how many people read this, so to those who do, THANK YOU!) on the status of the play.

After much casting pains, we finally have a solid cast. It hasn't been easy, and believe it or not, today was my final move in terms of casting.

We have had to let some people go, others have quite via third person communique, and then there's just simple scheduling conflicts that came up last minute. This process has been one filled with headache upon headache. But I am proud to give you the final cast (fingers crossed) for The Passages of Everett Manning:
